Riquna Williams scores 51 as Shock pounce Stars

San Antonio, TX, United States (4E Sports) – Riquna Williams poured in a WNBA record 51 points for the Tulsa Shock in pummeling the San Antonio Silver Stars 98-65 Sunday at the AT&T Center.

Williams was 17 for 28 from the field and hit eight 3-pointers.

Skylar Diggins added 20 points and Tiffany Jackson-Jones had 10 for the Shock (11-21).

The Silver Stars started strong with a 10-0 blast, fueled by five points from Jia Perkins.

Another Perkins’ 3-pointer gave the Stars its biggest lead at 29-18 with 8:32 to go in the second quarter.

Williams scored 16 in the first half, but couldn’t keep the Stars from taking a 43-39 lead at the half.

At the 6:37 mark of the third quarter, Williams connected with a layup to finally give the Shock the upper hand at 52-51.

The Shock outscored the Silver Stars 59-22 in the second half with Williams contributing 35.

Williams tied the record 47 points set by Phoenix’s Diana Taurasi and Seattle’s Lauren Jackson with a layup with 1:22 left in the game and then broke it with jumper 24 seconds later.

She added two free throws with 5 seconds left for her final points.
